Parquet Floor Repairs
Loose, hollow and missing parquet blocks re-laid and matched in Harrow. Original blocks are saved and reused wherever possible.
Expert parquet repairs
Parquet is one of the most durable floors there is, yet loose and hollow blocks are a very common problem. Changes in humidity, underfloor heating and old water leaks can all break the bond between the blocks and the subfloor. The good news is that most parquet can be repaired rather than replaced.
What a parquet repair involves
Removing loose blocks, cleaning them and re-laying them on fresh adhesive
Replacing broken or missing blocks with reclaimed parquet of the same species and size
Restoring the original pattern and borders where they have been patched badly
Levelling and repairing the subfloor where needed
Repairs that disappear
Parquet laid fifty or a hundred years ago has a colour that new timber cannot copy. We hold reclaimed stock and match each replacement block to its neighbours before fixing it. After the repair, parquet floor sanding brings new and old blocks to one flat, even surface.
When to call us
If blocks sound hollow, move underfoot or have started to lift, it is worth acting early. Repairing a few blocks now stops the problem spreading across the room. Read our parquet restoration guide for more on what causes blocks to lift.
Why we reuse original parquet
Original blocks are numbered or kept in order as they come up, so the pattern goes back exactly as it was. It keeps the floor authentic and means only truly broken blocks need replacing. Where a subfloor is damp or uneven, we deal with that first so the repair does not fail again.

Questions about parquet floor repairs
Can you fix parquet with missing blocks?
Almost always. We re-glue loose blocks, replace missing ones with matched or reclaimed timber, then sand and finish the whole floor so the repairs disappear. Find out more about parquet floor repairs.
How should I prepare the room?
Empty the room where possible and take down curtains that reach the floor. We can help move heavy furniture if we know in advance. Our preparation checklist has more tips.
Is parquet sanded differently?
Parquet runs in several directions, so we sand it in stages at different angles. Finishing with a planetary or buffing machine removes swirl marks and leaves an even surface ready for oil or lacquer.
My floor has a water stain — can it be fixed?
Often, yes. Light marks often sand away, while cupped or blackened boards are replaced and blended in. The floor must be fully dry first, so we take moisture readings before starting.
My parquet is stuck down with black bitumen — is that a problem?
Many older parquet floors were laid on bitumen adhesive. It is not a problem for sanding, but loose blocks need cleaning back and re-fixing with a compatible adhesive. We check this during the survey and include it in the quote.
Can I get a price without a visit?
For many jobs, yes. Photos of the floor plus rough measurements let us give a guide price quickly. We confirm it with a short visit before work starts, so the final quote is fixed.
