Decking Restoration
Weathered garden decks brought back to life with cleaning, sanding and protective oil.
A few winters can turn a smart new deck grey, green and slippery. Fortunately, the damage is usually only skin deep, and careful sanding reveals sound, attractive timber below.
Our Harrow team applies the same care to decking as to indoor floors. You get a cleaner, safer and better-protected deck. Spring is a good time to book — see our article on decking restoration after winter.
How we restore a deck
Deep clean to remove algae, moss and dirt
Repairs to split or rotten boards
Sanding to remove grey, weathered fibres and raised grain
Two coats of UV-resistant decking oil
Every kind of deck
From pressure-treated pine to tropical hardwoods, we tailor the process to the timber. Grooved boards need extra cleaning, but they come up just as well. We can also refresh garden furniture and wooden steps while we are there.
Aftercare
Annual cleaning and a top-up coat of oil every one to two years keep decking at its best. Like re-oiling an indoor floor, a maintenance coat is much quicker than a full restoration.
Signs your deck needs attention
Faded, silver-grey timber
Slippery boards, especially after rain
Splinters and raised grain
Patchy, flaking coatings
Regular care prevents water getting into the timber and causing rot. A typical garden deck takes one to two days. We need a dry spell for the oil to cure, so we plan the work around the forecast. Spring and early autumn tend to give the best conditions.
Repairs and safety
During the clean we check every board, joist and fixing we can reach. Rotten or split boards are swapped out, and protruding screws replaced so the surface is safe for bare feet. If the frame underneath needs attention, we will tell you before carrying on.
Indoor work is covered by our 3-month guarantee; ask us about how this applies to outdoor timber, which is exposed to the weather. Check our prices page for typical decking costs.

Questions about decking restoration
My decking has gone grey and slippery — can it be saved?
In most cases, yes. We deep clean, sand and treat the boards with a UV-resistant decking oil that restores the warm timber tone and makes it safer underfoot. See our decking restoration service.
How are your prices worked out?
Prices depend on the floor area, condition, repairs needed and the finish you choose. Our price list shows typical starting prices, and the free survey gives you a fixed written quote.
Do you repair decking as well?
We swap out damaged boards and re-fix loose ones as part of the job. Replacement boards are matched as closely as possible once the whole deck is oiled.
How often should decking be oiled?
Once a year is a good rule of thumb. South-facing decks in full sun may need it sooner. A yearly coat keeps the timber protected.
What do you need from us on the day?
A normal plug socket and parking close by is all we need. Our machines run on domestic power, and we bring all tools, materials and dust sheets.
What time of year should decking be done?
We work on decking from spring to early autumn. The timber needs a few dry days so the oil can soak in properly. Our decking guide explains how to prepare.
